Green Wrythe Primary School

Rainbow Curriculum

Welcome to the Rainbow Department at Green Wrythe Primary School, a nurturing specialist base for children with Autism.

Our Vision

Rainbow aspires to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment for all of its pupils that enables pupils to fully meet their potential.

Our curriculum is underpinned by the belief that education should be child-centred and tailored to fully meet the individual needs of each pupil. Our classrooms provide a play-based curriculum that encourages exploration, creativity and developing independence.

Curriculum Framework

Rainbow provides a curriculum that is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework, and covers learning across the following curriculum areas;

Communication, Language: Exploring listening and attention skills, understanding and expressive communication.

Literacy: Interpreting, creating and communicating through different media.

Mathematical Development: Encouraging understanding of numbers, shapes, and patterns in the world around them.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Developing sense of self, social skills and understanding of emotions.

Physical Development: Promoting coordination, control, and movement in different spaces.

Understanding of the World: Supporting understanding of the world and curiosity to explore.

Expressive Arts and Design: Fostering imagination and creativity through art and music.

PLIMs

Rainbow also considers the learning profiles of each of the children in ensuring the curriculum is child-centred, and considerate of all the pupil’s needs. We work closely with the therapy team to embed Key Stage outcomes from pupils' EHCPs into the curriculum across the four broad areas of need.

Communication and Interaction

Cognition and Learning

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

Sensory and Physical

Personal Learning Intention Maps Explained

Class teachers will devise a PLIM for each pupil, which details a number of outcomes linked to each End of Key Stage target in their EHCP. These outcomes will be embedded into classroom practice, and underpin curriculum areas and topics.

Learning Through Play

Our approach to learning is centred around play, which is essential for engaging children and fostering active learning. Through a  topic cycle that covers a broad range of topics, we aspire to create a curriculum that inspires pupil engagement that is motivating and stimulating.
